Interview Tips ( Body Language - II )

Feet are the most honest part of body. They tell, exactly, what a person is thinking, and feeling. During most of the interviews, particularly CSS interviews, panel is usually sitting at such a distance from you that it can easily watch the movements of your feet. Therefore, you need to take care of your feet language. My following guidelines would help you in showing confidence, interest, and positivity during the interview and in standing out from the crowd.

First and foremost thing that you need to do is to keep your feet pointed towards the person you are communicating with. So, during the interview, your feet should be facing the panel or the interviewer. It shows that you are taking interest in the conversation. If your feet are pointed towards the door, it would reflect that you want to leave, either due to hurry or simply due to pressure of the interview.

Secondly, exhibit some gravity defying behaviors of the feet, for example, moving tip of a foot upwards for a while. It means you are in a good mood. It also means that you are listening or thinking something positive. Additionally, it would show that you are a positive personality, possessing confidence at the same time. Both of these qualities are necessary to succeed in every walk of life.

Thirdly, avoid interlocking your ankles below the chair. It shows that you are either upset or non-confident.

A higher degree of locking ankles is locking them around the legs of chair. It shows height of discomfort, anxiety and concern. So, avoid ankle-locking of any form.

Some people even tilt their feet in such a way that toes start pointing inwards. It is highly submissive behavior and is not expected from a Civil Servant as he/ she needs to be a decisive personality.

The point is, you may try to control your facial expressions for hiding some feelings, but your feet would be speaking truth about your discomfort or confusion at that time. So, practice these guidelines about feet language before appearing in the interview.
